How to respond to hostile comments?
How to quickly shut down people who leave hostile comments under your posts?
Always agree with them.
In fact, you only need to do it once, and they will immediately shut up after your first response to their unpleasant comment.
“Your post is really awful!” “Yes, you’re right, I wrote something really awful.”
This method is not often found in online etiquette manuals. After all, we can explain it in just a few lines, while manuals must fill many pages.
But the system works with pinpoint accuracy and has two possible outcomes: the detractor becomes your friend (unlikely), or they don’t go beyond the second comment and disappear into the void whence they came (much more likely).
What could counter their own opinion, their own reflection in the mirror?
You have turned them into a spring without tension, a fire without fuel.
And don’t even worry about confusing them with a reader who doesn’t share your point of view and tells you so in search of dialogue. You can tell the two apart even in the dark.
Seeking confrontation and adding fuel to the fire are traits of a personal brand. Authentic and memorable.
All this, of course, if it is not your intention to assert your reasons against the unreasonableness of the other. In that case, you’d better stand by your opinion until you run out of cortisol reserves and available characters.
The alternative to agreeing is silence, the best response ever. But we know that it’s not nice to leave comments unanswered.
Furthermore, if the invective is defamatory or seriously personal, agreeing or remaining silent are not the best choices. Here, in fact, other paths open up.
